FARMERS’ MARKET SOAPBOX TO TEST EPSOM CANDIDATES
Parnell Farmers’ Market will play host to an Epsom electorate soapbox, just two weeks prior to the eagerly anticipated General Election on 26 November.
Candidates from Act, Greens, Labour and National as well as an independent have agreed to participate in the 12 November event, which is being hosted by renowned columnist and commentator, David Slack.
In a return to good old fashioned campaigning, candidates will be spelling out their credentials to a crowd from steps overlooking the market, and will be the only time these candidates will all speak from the same platform in the open air in the heart of the electorate.
Parnell Farmers’ Market Manager Sarah Bird says the market has long been a hub for people in the community to come together, so it makes sense that it facilitates an opportunity for the community to hear from those vying to be their elected representative.
“This soapbox provides an opportunity for the public to meet the candidates in the fabulous farmers’ market environment, where they can shop, have a coffee and meet their neighbours at the same time,” says Sarah.
Candidates will make a draw for the speaking order at 9.30am, with the first candidate handed the megaphone at 9.45am. Each candidate will then have 10 minutes to state their case for why they should be the next Member for Epsom.
Parnell Farmers’ Market is on every Saturday morning between 8am-12noon in the carpark of the Jubilee Building, 545 Parnell Road, Parnell. Free parking is available on the surrounding streets and in the AECOM carpark at 47-49 George Street.
