Classes in the Inner City: Term Two
With the exception of the Dancercise 50+ and Ballet for Adults, all classes are held at the Pioneer Women's and Ellen Melville Hall, Freyberg Place, Auckland City. See below for map. Dancercise 50+ and Ballet for Adults are both held at the Auckland Chinese Presbyterian Church (ACPC), 105 Vincent Street, Auckland City (venue is upstairs).
Leisure Activities
Mother, Toddler and Baby Coffee Group Wednesday 10-11.30am
Begins 9 May (fortnightly) until 20 June
Pop along and enjoy free coffee while meeting other mums, babies and toddlers. Gold coin donation appreciated.
Healthy Mind and Body
Dancercise for 50+ Thursday 10.30-11.30am FIRST CLASS FREE
Begins 3 May 8 weeks $40
Simple dance steps, combined with fun music, make this programme “a must” for those wanting a friendly exercise class. The tutor has taught dance and fitness for over 30 years. Join in the fun and walk away with a smile on your face.

Ballet for Adults Monday 6-7pm
Begins 7 May 7 weeks $75
Adult Ballet offers the artistic joys of classical ballet while learning the fundamental techniques of ballet, developing elements of grace, flexibility and strength. It is suitable for both beginners and those who enjoyed ballet in earlier years. Please wear comfortable clothing and ballet slippers.

Introduction to Tai Chi Wednesday 6-7pm
Begins 9 May 8 weeks $45
An excellent method to reduce stress, cultivate relaxation and mind-body synchronisation. An introduction to some of the principles and applications of the Chen Man-Ching system. Tutor has been teaching for 19 years. Participants welcome at any stage of the term.
Culture and Languages
English IELTS Preparation Monday 5.30-7.30pm
Begins 7 May 8 weeks $95 (no class on Monday 4 June Queen's Birthday)
The 8 weeks course covers introduction to IELTS exam, general preparation and exam hints with an academic focus. Complete one test each week and the results will be discussed. Plenty of opportunity to discuss concerns. The 8 weeks course will consist of:
- Week 1: Introduction to IELTS, quiz on students knowledge and level.
- Week 2 & 3 General IELTS preparation and exam hints and practise:
- Weeks 4-6:Academic IETLS focus: each week complete 1 test
- Week 7: Planning on completing a full test, (full test of 2 hours in duration, without speaking)
- Week 8: hand back papers and results, and follow up on any problems students have.
ESOL Conversation and Pronunciation Monday 7.30-8.30pm
Begins 7 May 8 weeks $40 (no class on Monday 4 June Queen's Birthday)
Intermediate level and above. Improve your conversation skills and vocabulary in this higher level class.
ESOL 50+ Conversation for Beginners Wednesday 10-11.30am
Begins 9 May 8 weeks Gold Coin Donation
Sessions will involve speaking with a focus on pronunciation, listening, conversation and vocabulary building skills.
French for Travellers Monday 7-9pm
Begins 21 May 5 weeks $80 (no class on Monday 4 June Queen's Birthday)
Covers speaking, reading, writing and culture, and enables you to communicate confidently in any simple situation. Please bring pad and pen.
Lifestyle and Technology
Gardening for Balconies Thursday 6-7.30pm
Begins 3 May 4 weeks $20
The basics of food growing, how to choose plants for your space, design tips to make the most of your space, creative techniques for growing in small urban spaces, how to maintain a healthy, productive garden, how to deal with common pests and diseases, urban composting.
Adobe Photoshop (Beginners) Thursday 6-8pm
Begins 10 May 3 weeks $85
Practical guide for those interested in editing and enhancing their digital photographs. A hands-on course making best use of the editing software to bring your photographs to life. Aimed at the beginner. Laptops provided but please bring your own if you have Adobe Photoshop installed.
The Simple Pleasure of Drawing Monday 5.30-6.45pm
Begins 11 June 4 weeks $50
Are you someone that says “I’d love to draw but I can’t?” This workshop will inspire you to draw anything and feel that it is good enough. Watch a wonderful slide show on drawings made from various materials and over the course of four weeks we will work our way through simple and fun exercises from doodles to erasure, text and blind drawings. Please bring a pencil, eraser and any kind of paper.
How to Apply your Makeup* Thursday 5.45-6.45pm
Begins 3 May 2 weeks $25
Learn how to find a foundation colour that is right for you, how to create a day look in just four minutes and how to transform this look into a night look. Please bring your own makeup, or you can use the tutors for an additional $15
Create a Capsule Wardrobe* Thursday 5.45-6.45pm
Begins 17 May 2 weeks $25
Create the ideal wardrobe by learning how to turn 15 items into 50+ looks.
Define your Style* Thursday 5.45-6.45pm
Begins 7 June 3 weeks $40
Learn about what your body shape is, how to best dress for your shape and how to define your own style that fits your body shape, your personality and your budget.
*OR enrol in all three: How to Apply your Make-up; Create a Capsule Wardrobe and Define your Style, and pay only $80
