Special Interest Challenges
These holidays Parnell Trust offers two multi-day special interest challenges for 9 to 14 year olds and one for children 5 years plus. These are stimulating learning opportunities in which children tackle problems, develop ideas, put them into practice and emerge with a real sense of achievement.
This holiday, the challenges are:
- Urban Explorer (4 day programme)
- Business for Kids (5 day programme)
- Digital Music Explorer (4 day programme)
All programmes run from 9am to 4pm each day, except Business for Kids' Market Day, which finishes at 7pm. Children can join Parnell Trust's recreational programmes (also at Parnell District School) from 8am - 9am; and from 4pm to 6pm if you require an early drop off or late pick up.

Monday to Thursday 12 - 15 January |
For 5 to 14 year olds...............................................................9am - 4pm Monday to Thursday Explore the fun of creating robots through practical and hands-on experiences with engineering and technology. Following the successful Advanced Robotics programme in April, the fun Digital Music Explorer in July and Robo Explorer in Sept/Oct, we are offering the opportunity to join us to become inspired with the Urban Explorer programme. You will:
Parnell Trust is proud to bring you this fantastic programme, sponsored by IBM with a curriculum developed by Tufts University, Boston. Urban Explorer gives children the opportunity to explore the world of engineering and technology using LEGO Mindstorm equipment. Working at their own pace, guided by experienced tutors, the children are supported and encouraged to create and design their own robots.

BUSINESS FOR KIDS |
Monday to Friday 19 - 23 January |
For 9 to 14 year olds .............................9am - 4pm, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday 9am - 7pm Thursday (dinner provided) A hands-on introduction to the fascinating world of commerce: create your own currency, define your own skills to produce your first CV and then apply for a job. Will you be an Accountant, Marketing Manager or CEO? Have fun designing a product and making a sales presentation on Market Day, when you sell your products or services to your family and friends i.e. take your wares to market and see how well your company can do. As new entrepreneurs, your hard work and success is rewarded at the end of the programme. Every holiday period produces new, exciting ventures as the children brainstorm ideas and decide on their offerings and strategies. Some of the business principles included are importing' when you need to buy extra materials off-site. Also, running a daily Cash Book to track your costs and sourcing references for your CV.

Enterprise New Zealand was established to promote an enterprise culture among New Zealand 's school students. It is dedicated to the development and promotion of enterprise education, financial and business understanding and creativity and innovation, in partnership with New Zealand business.

Digital Music Explorer |
Tuesday to Friday 27- 30 January |
For 9 to 14 year olds....................................................................9am - 4pm Tuesday to Friday Compose your own beats using 'Fruity Loops' (a music writing software package) on laptops. Guitar Pro is another programme used to analyse components of your favourite songs. Visit a recording studio where you get the chance to perform on and record your choice of instrument. Mix your own beats and learn about microphone set-up. We also take a trip to the famous Rock Shop in the city and discover some electrifying things about different instruments and professional equipment. You are welcome to bring in your instruments or amplifiers. You will receive a CD of your music, complete with play list and cover, designed by you. This programme is adapted from the prestigious Tufts University in Boston, USA.
