From the stallholders

Love is in the air…Stems Roses have a Valentine’s day special of $40 for a dozen medium-length red roses. Contact Daisy at stemsroses@clear.net.nz to place your order (by Friday 10 February, please, to make sure she has enough stock).

NEW: Marron & Dolce, artisan patisserie, will be joining us for the first time this Saturday. They have an A rated commercial kitchen based at Violet Hill Farm. They use locally sourced ingredients where possible, including their own free range eggs and fruit from their extensive orchard. Their range includes French pastries (caramelized macadamia slice, season fruit tarts, vanilla mille fuille and macaroons); gingerbread and cake pops for children; a dessert range and a savoury range including quiches made using home- grown herbs, eggs and local seasonal produce. They also have a range of ready-to-eat products which you will be able to enjoy at the market.

Bee Happy Honey has some new season’s honey and honeycomb in stock. They also have bee venom products and fresh frozen bee’s pollen. Cherries from Central Otago will continue to be available for a few more weeks.

K & R Orchids who sell exotic orchid and air plants will be with us this Saturday but are away on 18 and 25 February at an orchid show in Japan. They will be back with us in March. We’ve been joined for the plum season by Fletcher’s fruits from Oratia. They have several plum varieties which are all delicious.

Karaka Olives are back with their delicious olive oils. Heritage Organix have damsons which are only available for a couple of weeks. Ooh la la: they have a great damson gin recipe which is available on our recipes page.

Who says “never work with dogs or children” – we LOVE having them at the market

We have created a special “toy” Farmers’ Market stall for the little ones to enjoy, plus of course, chalk for creating masterpieces on the ground and a kids’ table for drawing.

And for Fido (the name’s George, actually), we have a pooch parking area and water bucket near the library steps on the northern side of the market. Feel free to take your dog around the stalls – we love seeing all our furry visitors.
