Social Activities at

Parnell Community Centre

Parnell Community Centre organises a number of social activity groups at the Jubilee Building, 545 Parnell Road. We invite you to join a group, improve your skills and make new friends. You'll be in great company!

Parnell Community Centre has large groups playing Bridge and Mah Jong each week. Other regular social activities include Scrabble, the Step Out Walking Group, Film Club and Seniors Coffee & Chat. U3A and three Toastmasters Clubs also meet regularly at the Centre. Read more about our activities below.



A $10 annual fee, payable in January or on joining, covers your membership to all social activities at Parnell Community Centre during that year, except Garden Group, Toastmasters and U3A. Once you're a member, you only pay a small per session fee ($3-$8) for each activity you attend.

New members are always welcome and you may join at any time!

Bridge at Parnell Community Centre

Parnell Community Centre Bridge Club

Friday 1-4pm
(membership plus $8 session)
Parnell Community Centre's popular social Bridge group now has more than 90 members, with around 50 meeting every Friday afternoon in the Jubilee Building. Players of all levels are welcomed and partners for players can be arranged if needed. Includes afternoon tea. Mary Chamberlain, Director.

Parnell St Johns Bridge Club (membership plus $8 session)
Monday 7.30-10pm

Join Parnell St Johns Bridge Club (formerly St Johns Bridge Club, Remuera) for a friendly game with exposure to competition Bridge on Monday nights.New members and all level players welcome. Mary Chamberlain, Director.

Bridge Classes
Parnell Community Centre's Bridge Director, Mary Chamberlain, can teach Bridge for beginners and improvers. A minimum of eight people is needed for classes to go ahead. Please call 09 555 5164 to enquire.

Meets monthly (dates to be arranged)

Film Group
Third Thursday of the month, 2.30-4pm
(membership plus $4 session)
Friendly monthly group meets for tea & discussion of movies you've recently seen.

Learn to play or refresh your skills in this fascinating Oriental board game.

Second Thursday of  the month 10-11am
Meet neighbours and make new friends. Held in Parnell Library, ground floor, Jubilee Building.

Tuesday 1.30-3.30pm
(membership plus $4 session)
Enjoy fellowship, build your Scrabble vocabulary and finish with a cup of tea.

Seniors Coffee and Chat
Meets monthly
(membership plus $3 session)
Come together for morning tea, guest speakers and regular outings. Call 09 555 5164 for details of the next gathering.

Step Out Walking Group
Thursday 10-11am
Be motivated, socialise and explore the neighbourhood as you step out with other enthusiastic walkers. The group steps out in all weathers and usually finishes their morning walk at a local cafe.

Three Toastmasters groups meet regularly at Parnell Community Centre.

Parnell U3A
Third Wednesday of each month, 9.30-11.30am The Parnell Branch of U3A (University of the Third Age) meets monthly in the Parnell Community Centre for presentations, lectures and morning tea. In addition, there are network groups throughout the month. Members must be 55 or older and be willing to pay a $35 annual fee.
